National Library Week
Join the Circle of Knowledge @
the Walworth-Seely Public Library
April 13 - 19, 2008
Drop in and Create Something
Come
and see what Mrs. O'Toole pulls out of her cupboard. Come when
you can and make a bookmark, a book jacket for your favorite book or
another activity. There will be craft projects set out in the
program room during the afternoon and evening. See how creative
you can be!
ARE YOU READY?
Spring
is almost here and summer is not far behind. The Walworth-Seely
Public Library is proud to present the 2008 summer reading theme, Catch
the Reading Bug! This theme can be found in libraries all over
the country. You can read anywhere you travel. We will have
prizes, crafts and games all summer. Be sure to join us for a
whole lot of buggy fun. Hey, you never know... you, too may Catch
the Reading Bug!
What
can you expect? Our regular programs include storytimes for the
youngest "readers" under the age of three years, which we call Lapsit.
We have storytimes for pre-schoolers, ages 3-5 and not attending
shcool, programs for those entering grades K-2 and programs for those
entering grades 3-6. There will also be some new and exciting
opportunities to keep reading while enjoying the Summer.
We
also offer a reading incentive program to keep everyone reading - yes,
young adults and adults of all ages can all participate!!
Countless studies have shown that reading over the summer not oly
helps keep the child abreast of his/her studues, but also puts him/her
ahead for the next grade level if reading continues. Besides
that, it's simply fun!!
Questions? Comments? Ask at the circulation desk. We'd love to hear from you. This is YOUR library. We want to make sure that you have all the information you need to have a great summer! Come join the fun!
Walworth
Memories
District School House Memories
Sunday,
April 6, 2 - 3:30 PM
Walworth Town Complex, Main Meeting Room
It
wasn't that long ago when the Walworth area was populated with small
district school houses whose teachers often taught a multitude of
students of various ages and grades. Today we could say these
teachers were excelling in multi-tasking.
Many
of us are products of these now-extinct school houses. Come to
the Walworth town hall meeting room, 3600 Lorraine Drive, on Sunday
April 6, from 2 - 3:30 PM and join others for the next Walworth
Memories program. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of
the Walworth-Seely Public Library.
Since
2003 the Walworth-Seely Public Library and the Walworth Historical
Society have co-sponsored these programs. For additional
information contact Library Director Mary Zingerella (315-986-1511) or
Walworth Historical Society President Jessie Keymel (315-524-9205).
SING ALONG WITH "RICH"
Sunday,
April 13, 1:30 - 2:30 PM
Families
with kids, young adults, seniors - BEGIN SPRING BREAK with a time of
fun - singing, including "action songs" for the younger set (whether 6+
or 60+) and a lot of old favorites - from songs from musicals to those
neat songs we learned at summer camp or in school! Rich may be
joined by Pam Marsteiner, soprano, General Manager of the Canaltown
Chorale, in duets from "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Phantom of the Opera".
ALL COME to have a great hour of hun! Light refreshments
following the song-fest.
WHO IS "RICH"?
Richard
Crooks, well-known local organist, pianist and choral director, is a
native of Saginaw, MI, and a graduate of Kalamazoo College and Colgate
Rochester Divinity School. He has taught music in public schools
in NY (he taught elementary school music in Rochester and was also on
the faculty of the School of the Arts) and HS vocal and
instrumental music in NH for many years. He was an associate
professor in the Department of Language, Literature and Ideas at Olivet
College, Olivet, MI, in the late 70's. He is a former director of
the Canaltown Chorale and currently its accompanist. He has also
been the Organist/Choir Director at Walworth United Methodist Church
for the past five years. And, oh yes, Mr. Crooks is President of
our Library's Board of Trustees.
Genealogy Lunch Bunch
Wednesday, April 30, June 18, September 17 and November 19, 2008
Noon - 2 PM
Come
and join a fun group who will share their successes and road
blocks during their search for their family history. This is for
everyone, the beginner as well as the experienced genealogist.
There is always something to learn. You might even find a
distant cousin in the group! Bring your files, bags, totes and a
lunch. Beverages and desserts are provided by the Friends of the
Walworth-Seely Public Library.
How many books can we read between March 31 and June 30?
Come
into the library and ask for a bug-part. Write your name on the
back and make a slash mark for every book you read. When you have
10 or so, bring it into the library. You will be given a bug
sticker for each book. The bug-part will be added to our
ever-growing bug. She will be as big as we can make her - the
more bug-parts the better. Can we maker her 200 bug-parts long?
Help us name our bug! Write your suggestion on a slip of paper at
the desk and place it in the box between March 31 and April 20. A
slip will be drawn from the box on Monday, April 21, and she will be
named! Look for her name the next time you visit.
